Incoming changes in post-study work visa for UK

The UK government has announced changes to the Graduate Route, reducing the post-study work period for most undergraduate and master’s graduates from 2 years to 18 months. Applications made on or after 1 Jan 2027 will carry the 18-month version; those before (i.e., by 31st December 2026) retain the 2-year stay. PhD graduates will continue to receive up to 3 years of post-study work rights. The shorter post-study window means students must plan ahead and be more intentional in aligning their programme choices with employment sectors in the UK. As always, informed decision-making and early planning will be key for students evaluating the UK as a destination in the coming years.
